A migration-based approach towards resource-efficient wireless structural health monitoring

چکیده
Wireless sensor networks have emerged as a complementary technology to conventional, cable-based systems for structural health monitoring. However, the wireless transmission of sensor data and the on-board execution of engineering analyses directly on the sensor nodes can consume a significant amount of the inherently restricted node resources. This paper presents an agent migration approach towards resource-efficient wireless sensor networks. To efficiently use the limited computational resources, autonomous software agents, referred to as “on-board agents”, are embedded into the wireless sensor nodes employed for structural health monitoring. The autonomous on-board agents perform simple resourceefficient routines, continuously analyze and aggregate the sensor data recorded from the monitored structural system, and transmit the aggregated data sets in periodic intervals to a central server. Once potential anomalies are detected in the observed structural system, the on-board agents autonomously request for specialized software programs (“migrating

Autonomous Structural Condition Monitoring based on Dynamic Code Migration and Cooperative Information Processing in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks have emerged in recent years as a viable alternative substituting conventional, tethered systems for structural health monitoring. Because of the limited internal resources of wireless sensor nodes, new and innovative concepts are needed to implement resource-efficient operation for reliable monitoring. This study explores the use of dynamic code migration and automated...
متن کاملAn efficient symmetric polynomial-based key establishment protocol for wireless sensor networks
An essential requirement for providing secure services in wireless sensor networks is the ability to establish pairwise keys among sensors. Due to resource constraints on the sensors, the key establishment scheme should not create significant overhead. To date, several key establishment schemes have been proposed. Some of these have appropriate connectivity and resistance against key exposure, ...
متن کاملMulti-layer Clustering Topology Design in Densely Deployed Wireless Sensor Network using Evolutionary Algorithms
Due to the resource constraint and dynamic parameters, reducing energy consumption became the most important issues of wireless sensor networks topology design. All proposed hierarchy methods cluster a WSN in different cluster layers in one step of evolutionary algorithm usage with complicated parameters which may lead to reducing efficiency and performance. In fact, in WSNs topology, increasin...
متن کاملWireless sensor network-based pattern matching technique for the circumvention of environmental and stimuli-related variability in structural health monitoring
Much research has gone into using wireless sensor networks to monitor structural health by sensing and measuring vibrations. One problem here is that structural vibrations can be affected by many factors, which can make it difficult to determine the contribution of structural condition to measured vibrations. We propose a robust solution to this difficulty that consists of a wireless sensor net...
متن کاملAn Optimization Model for Financial Resource Allocation Towards Seismic Risk Reduction
This paper presents a study on determining the degree of effectiveness of earthquake risk mitigation measures and how to prioritize such efforts in developing countries. In this paper a model is proposed for optimizing funds allocation towards risk reduction measures (building retrofitting) and reconstruction process after potential earthquakes in a regional level. The proposed model seeks opti...
